Our current display in Carlson Hall features architectural drawings of the church building. These include drawings from 1913 for the original construction, the 1938 remodel of the Church of Youth, the addition of an Education Wing in 1949-1950, and more recent drawings including computer-aided design for the East Entrance. The building has been modified over the years to meet our changing needs, and the technology to design these modifications has changed, too!
Barry Schaub visited the Northwest Architectural Archives in the Elmer Anderson Library at the University of Minnesota to obtain good copies of the original 1913 drawings. You can see that the design changed even as it was being built (look for the missing fireplace on the First Floor).
We hope you enjoy these drawings of our church home–and don’t miss the opportunity to tour our previous church home (now the Scottish Rite Temple) during Doors Open Minneapolis on May 18 (register here).
