On the first two Sundays of August, Rev. Dr. Christie Neuger and Rev. Dr. Joretta Marshall, both esteemed retired United Methodist ministers, delivered an insightful session on the significance of pastoral care and hospitality within the church to 50+ members of our congregation. With decades of experience as professors, pastors, chaplains, counselors, and consultants, they shared valuable strategies for nurturing a caring and attentive church community.
During the sessions, Rev. Dr. Neuger and Rev. Dr. Marshall emphasized the importance of embodying a caring attitude and presence. They discussed effective listening and questioning techniques, and highlighted the crucial role of the church in reflecting on and embodying theological principles. Practical steps for establishing and supporting lay caregiving programs were also outlined, offering attendees actionable insights to enhance their congregational care efforts.
