At Hennepin Avenue UMC, we seek to walk with people through the many losses of life. When a loved one dies, we offer the gift of community and the assurance of faith to those who wish to celebrate the life of the one who has passed on to life eternal.

We offer funeral and memorial services in both the Sanctuary and Border Chapel. Those seeking to plan a service should call the church office at 612-871-5303 or email pastoralcare@haumc.org. The pastor on call will return a message.

The pastoral staff will work with the family to arrange for the worship service, a simple reception or a meal. We work with area caterers to make this possible. Our church organist is available for music for the service, and we have a group of soloists who are also available. We offer ongoing grief support groups through the Downtown Grief Coalition.

Our hope is that we can offer comfort and solace during the difficult days of grief.
When you lose someone you love,
Your life becomes strange,
The ground beneath you gets fragile,
Your thoughts make your eyes unsure;
And some dead echo drags your voice down
Where words have no confidence.

Your heart has grown heavy with loss;
And though this loss has wounded others too,
No one knows what has been taken from you
When the silence of absence deepens…John O’Donohue
