Faith’s Imagination with Rev. Dr. Nancy Victorin-Vangerud

December 8 @ 9:00am 9:50am

Room

Longfellow Room

led by Nancy Victorin-Vangerud

9am in Faith’s Imagination group, (Sundays, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22)

Based on Robin Wall Kimmerer’s newest writing (an illustrated book, 128 pages) out Nov. 19th entitled, The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World.

What’s it about?

During the season of Advent, we prepare for what the church considers the greatest gift of all–the birth of Jesus Christ.  We plan our own gift-giving among family and friends–from heirloom baked goods to greeting cards, bright poinsettias to packages ribboned under the tree or delivered to loved ones’ front doors.  But this season, might we consider our gifts through the creation-centered lens of spiritual practices?  In what ways may we more mindfully practice earthkeeping and creation-justice in our gift-giving and gift-receiving?  By happy circumstance, Robin Wall Kimmerer’s newly illustrated book shares her indigenous wisdom about a “gift-economy” in The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World.  In this 4-Sunday class, we will learn through her perspective as both a botanist and indigenous storyteller to intentionally re-focus our gift-giving and receiving this season.

(The book even looks Christmas-y!)
