Silas Soule\, who refused to follow orders and participate in the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre\, Colorado. \n\n\n\nLent Feb 22 – April 5: “Letters from the Heart: Voices of Courage\, Conscience and Consolation\,” starting with Paul (2 Cor. 3:2-3)\, we’ll explore letters (and the lives of the letter-writers) from clergy and lay leaders influential in Christian spirituality–Hadejwich\, Martin Luther\, Sarah Crosby\, Dietrich Bonhoeffer\, Martin Luther King Jr.\, and Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde. \n\n\n\nSpring April 12 – May 17: “Letters to Pope Francis: Rebuilding a Church with Justice and Compassion”\, by Matthew Fox\, as we prepare for his Earth Sunday visit with HAUMC! We’ll explore Fox’s letters for the sake of the Community of Creation. \n\n\n\nClass is led by Nancy Victorin-Vangerud\, participants\, and guests. Feel free to email Nancy for more information and sign up\, so that weekly letters can be sent by email. \n\n\n\nFor January Communications: Witness at Sand Creek: The Life and Letters of Silas Soule

SUMMARY:Walking Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Mornings in the Art Gallery before Worship \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou’re invited to stretch your mind and your soul\, to print peace and serenity on this moment of overwhelming grief and trauma. \n\n\n\nBeginning January 18\, our church will hold 20 minutes of guided walking meditations before worship. \n\n\n\nWalking has long been a contemplative practice in both the Christian and Buddhist traditions. In this time when many of us feel powerless and overwhelmed\, movement of our bodies can lead to a movement in what we think\, feel\, and how we’re called to act. \n\n\n\nAs we stretch our legs\, we stretch our minds and our souls. St Augustine\, himself a great walker\, remarked\, “Solvitur ambulando;” it is solved by walking.–Walking in This World\, Julia Cameron \n\n\n\nWe walk all the time\, but usually it is more like running. When we walk like that\, we print anxiety and sorrow on the Earth. We have to walk in a way that we only print peace and serenity on the earch.–Being Peace\, Thich Nhat Hahn

SUMMARY:10am Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:EXPERIENCE THE JOY\, EXCITEMENT\, AND MAJESTY OF THE 10AM WORSHIP SERVICE.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipate Online on Website\n\n\n\nParticipate on Youtube\n\n\n\nParticipate on Facebook\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt Hennepin Avenue UMC we believe that worship is the work of the people. Sermons explore the intersection of historical texts and current realities. Our excellent music program launches soul through choral and communal song. Children lead in worship\, we sing varieties of hymns meant to engage hearts and imaginations\, and our cathedral sanctuary bears witness to an enduring desire to praise God in all ways. In the United Methodist Church\, communion is open to all and is shared on the first Sunday of the month. Worship is enriched by a variety of voices\, including our pastors\, Rev. Elizabeth Macaulay and Pastor Laura Hannah\, along with guest preachers and members of the community.
