SUMMARY:Coffee with Christy
DESCRIPTION:Longfellow Room \n\n\n\nEnjoy coffee\, connections\, and contemplation with Rev. Christy Key our new Executive Pastor! \n\n\n\nThis monthly gathering offers a quiet\, grounded space to pause\, listen\, and reconnect with God and one another. Each session will introduce a gentle spiritual practice drawn from Sacred Rhythms by Ruth Haley Barton—such as reflection\, guided silence\, or Lectio Divina—creating room to notice our longings and attend to God’s presence. No prior experience is needed; all are welcome. \n\n\n\nStructure & Flow: Each gathering stands on its own\, so participants are welcome to drop in at any point\, though regular attendance may deepen the experience over time. Sessions are lightly guided rather than discussion-heavy\, centered on scripture and contemplative prayer practices rather than open conversation or debate. Expect a calm\, reflective atmosphere with space for silence\, personal reflection\, and prayer.

SUMMARY:Dick Hensold & Victor Zupanc
DESCRIPTION:This duo concert features Dick Hensold\, Highland Reel Pipes\, Northumbrian smallpipes\, and whistles\, with Victor Zupanc\, composer\, music director for the Children’s Theater company\, and fantastic keyboardist. The music will be centered around Dick’s extensive study into Cape Breton piping\, but will also feature other Celtic music\, on his other bagpipes. \n\n\n\nCape Breton is at the Eastern end of Nova Scotia\, settled 200 years ago by many thousands of Gaelic-speaking Scots\, who preserve a very old style of playing said to come from Scotland’s Hebrides Islands.  \n\n\n\nAdmission for this concert is free and open to all! A freewill offering will be collected to support the Hennepin Music Series!

Silas Soule\, who refused to follow orders and participate in the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre\, Colorado. \n\n\n\nLent Feb 22 – April 5: “Letters from the Heart: Voices of Courage\, Conscience and Consolation\,” starting with Paul (2 Cor. 3:2-3)\, we’ll explore letters (and the lives of the letter-writers) from clergy and lay leaders influential in Christian spirituality–Hadejwich\, Martin Luther\, Sarah Crosby\, Dietrich Bonhoeffer\, Martin Luther King Jr.\, and Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde. \n\n\n\nSpring April 12 – May 17: “Letters to Pope Francis: Rebuilding a Church with Justice and Compassion”\, by Matthew Fox\, as we prepare for his Earth Sunday visit with HAUMC! SUMMARY:10am Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:EXPERIENCE THE JOY\, EXCITEMENT\, AND MAJESTY OF THE 10AM WORSHIP SERVICE.\n\n\n\n\nParticipate Online on Website\n\n\n\nParticipate on Youtube\n\n\n\nParticipate on Facebook\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt Hennepin Avenue UMC we believe that worship is the work of the people. Sermons explore the intersection of historical texts and current realities. Our excellent music program launches soul through choral and communal song. Children lead in worship\, we sing varieties of hymns meant to engage hearts and imaginations\, and our cathedral sanctuary bears witness to an enduring desire to praise God in all ways. In the United Methodist Church\, communion is open to all and is shared on the first Sunday of the month. Worship is enriched by a variety of voices\, including our pastors\, Rev. Elizabeth Macaulay and Rev. Christy Key\, along with guest preachers and members of the community.

SUMMARY:Land Acknowledgement Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Join our meeting over Zoom on the second Mondays of each month! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHennepin’s Creation Collective and Racial Justice Teams have been collaborating to develop a land acknowledgment statement and actions for our church. We invite all groups and individual members of HAUMC to join this conversation. We invite each of you into this meaningful\, long-term journey to create your own land acknowledgement. More than just words\, this project is a commitment to relationship-building\, truth-telling\, and reparative action with Indigenous communities in Minnesota.  \n\n\n\nOur monthly meetings on Zoom began Spring 2025. We compiled a list of websites and documents and group members (1) History Statement of Land Acknowledgement and HAUMC and (2) Research for HAUMC Action Plan–available on our group page on Realm.  \n\n\n\nActivities include book studies\, conversations and visits with those in other churches who led land acknowledgement initiatives. We’ve held watch parties online and in person of a video on the Doctrine of Discovery\, and we’ve begun work with consultant Rev Dawn Houser. Thirty persons from HAUMC attended a Sacred Sites tour led by Rev Jim Bear Jacobs in November 2025. \n\n\n\nOur focus is on working through (rather than on behalf of) the rest of the groups in the church and we invited other HAUMC groups to our meetings. Land Acknowledgement activities other groups in the church have organized include the Three Sisters Garden\, Faith’s Imagination winter Series “When We are Called to Dissent and Resist”\, The HAUMC Library’s Native American book display\, a Native American Art Display\, and the Men’s Group winter event: Creation Spirituality: A Night of Readings and Reflections in the Depths. \n\n\n\nLook for an announcement soon about an upcoming six-week Land Acknowledgement Journey that begins Feb 25\, 2026! \n\n\n\nLeaders: Cece Cope\, Tim Eberhart\, Ellen Sundell\, Ann Carlson \n\n\n\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\n\n\n\n\nMeeting ID: 872 7727 9883Password: 991695

SUMMARY:Norah O'Donnell Presents: We the Women
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nNorah O’Donnell presents We The Women at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (511 Groveland Avenue\, Minneapolis MN 55403)\, in conversation with Sharon McMahon. Tickets $48.16 (includes taxes & fees) and include a copy of We the Women. \n\n\n\nOver a decades-long\, distinguished career\, award-winning journalist Norah O’Donnell has made it her mission to shed light on untold women’s stories. Now\, in honor of America’s 250th birthday\, O’Donnell focuses that passion on sharing the stories of American heroines who helped change the course of history. \n\n\n\nWE THE WOMEN presents a new and extraordinary retelling of American history through the eyes of women\, introducing us to inspiring patriots who demanded that the country live up to the promises made 250 years ago in the Declaration of Independence: that “all men are created equal\, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights\, that among those are Life\, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The pressing question from women since the signing of the document has been: Why don’t those unalienable rights apply to us? \n\n\n\nThrough extensive research and interviews\, as well as old photos and historic documents\, O’Donnell curates a compelling portrait of these fierce fighters for freedom. From Mary Katharine Goddard\, who printed the first signed Declaration of Independence\, to the Forten family women\, considered the “Black Founders” of Philadelphia who were active in the abolition and suffrage movements\, to the first women who served in the Armed Forces even before they had the right to vote\, O’Donnell brings these extraordinary women together for the first time\, and in doing so\, writes the American story anew. \n\n\n\nNorah O’Donnell is a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist with nearly three decades of experience covering the biggest stories in the world and conducting impactful\, news-making interviews. She is CBS News’ Senior Correspondent\, focused on big interviews and projects for the network\, and spent five years as the anchor and managing editor of theCBS Evening Newsthe oldest and most revered evening news broadcast in America. O’Donnell anchors CBS News Election Specials and is a 60 Minutes contributing correspondent. She is married to the bacon-loving Geoff Tracy\, otherwise known as Chef Geoff\, and is the mother of three children. \n\n\n\nSharon McMahon is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Small and the Mighty\, founder of The Preamble\, a weekly magazine that reaches over 360\,000 readers with fact-based\, nonpartisan insights on history\, government\, and current events\, and a highly sought after public speaker. Her message is simple but urgent: truth matters\, facts don’t require your approval\, and small actions can shape the future. Her new children’s book\, We Are Mighty\, will be released in May 2026. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSeating: Please note that seating in this space is first-come\, first served. If one of your party needs accessibility accomodations\, please email events@magersandquinn.com AFTER purchasing your tickets\, and appropriate seats will be reserved for your party. \n\n\n\nTicketing policy: Help us keep these tickets off 3rd party resale sites. SUMMARY:Beyond Land Acknowledgement: Repairing Relationships with Indigenous People
DESCRIPTION:Ann Carlson will be leading a Lenten discussion class that begins on Wednesday evenings starting on February 25. Join the six-week class to learn how the Christian-crafted Doctrine of Discovery shaped the development of the United States\, promoting the theft of indigenous lands\, the destruction of Indigenous cultures\, and killing of people. \n\n\n\nLearn how writing a land acknowledgement can help begin the process of repairing relationships with indigenous people through a process of decolonization. While it’s not required\, participants interested in joining are strongly encouraged to attend the first discussion session and continue attending each week throughout the six-week class. The discussions taking place through this series are designed to build on one another\, so joining partway through is not recommended. \n\n\n\nWe are politely asking for your registration for this class! If you are interested in joining\, please RSVP by emailing Ann Carlson (carlsonaj99@gmail.com).
