As part of an exciting new initiative, the Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (HAUMC) is expanding its care ministry to include a Faith Community Nurse. After receiving a request from the new Governance Board, the Lay Endowment Fund has generously awarded a grant to underwrite this position for two years, after which it will become part of the church’s annual operating budget.
Lay Endowment Fund President, Scott Cabalka, stated, “We are happy to underwrite a model for a new care ministry at Hennepin. We see the value of adding a faith community nurse to lead the HAUMC care ministry. Undertaking new programs with staff takes time to establish and needs financial support in this early stage.”
This initiative marks a significant step in our church’s mission to provide holistic care for our congregation. The Staff Parish Relations team, along with Pastor Elizabeth Macaulay, will be responsible for hiring the Faith Community Nurse to spearhead this growing ministry.
Pastor Elizabeth shares, “As a Christian movement dedicated to connection and compassion, Hennepin has the opportunity to build on decades of caring relationships. Ministry is the heart and soul work of the people. Please join me in thanking the Lay Endowment Fund and join us in this rich ministry opportunity!”
In addition to hiring a nurse, Pastor Elizabeth is seeking volunteers from the congregation to join the care team. Those interested in learning more are invited to meet with Pastor Elizabeth at 5:30pm on September 18th in the Longfellow Room. This is a wonderful chance to hear more about the ministry and explore how you can contribute to this vital, compassionate work.
The Lay Endowment Fund is a separate legal entity from the church with its own board of directors. It was formed to support HAUMC and organizations whose activities align with the church’s mission and purpose. Church members serve on the board, ensuring that this fund continues to benefit the community.
