Spring Series Week Seven: A Cathedral for All Creation
Over 40 members attended Sunday’s two-and-a-half-hour class, where we celebrated Hennepin Ave. UMC’s vocation as a “Cathedral for All Creation.” Drawing on our yearlong conversation, with constructive input from class members, we affirmed the basic outline of Hennepin’s Mission & Vision for Regenerative Ministry. This includes the formation of The Creation Collective, which will steward and ensure implementation of the church’s mission for regenerative ministry with the supportive of multiple Bee Hives of collaborative action focused on the following areas: Buildings & Energy, Land Use, Food & Agriculture, Worship & Spirituality, Christian Education & Formation, and Political Advocacy, Organizing, & Outreach. Each Bee Hive will be intentional about accessing resources from and adding value to denominational, ecumenical/interfaith, and public/political networks, while also engaging church staff and committee leaders for congregation-wide integration and coordination of its regenerative ministries.
Prepare for Upcoming Class
For our last class of the year this coming Sunday, we’ll discuss a final regenerative design principle – “Becoming a Systems Actualizer” – and invite members to identify where and how they will choose to contribute to the work of The Creation Collective. Possibilities include: committing to support the efforts of a particular Bee Hive as a worker bee, leading/facilitating a Bee Hive as a queen bee, or working with Tim Eberhart to provide leadership/facilitation of The Collective as a beekeeper. For those unable to attend who are planning to be involved, please share your level of interest and commitment with another class member in advance.
