SUMMARY:Faith's Imagination with Rev. Dr. Nancy Victorin-Vangerud
DESCRIPTION:Join the Zoom Meeting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSundays 9-9:50am (starting January 11) in the Longfellow Room \n\n\n\nBy gathering before worship\, we connect with care and conversation\, preparing ourselves to enter into celebration. We ground ourselves with thoughtful questions\, seeking to re-imagine Christian meaning and embodied paths of spiritual practice. Sometimes our focus is a scripture series\, a timely book\, poetry\, or an all-church read.   \n\n\n\nThemes that speak to us are social and environmental justice\, democratic pluralism\, inclusive communities\, and reparative futures.  And… there’s coffee!  For more info\, email Nancy Victorin-Vangerud (nmvicvang@gmail.com). \n\n\n\nJoin Zoom Meetinghttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83864480520?pwd=wIS3JRiBF5VLul1dkLUdh8YzFQtYHU.1 \n\n\n\nMeeting ID: 838 6448 0520Passcode: 054671 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2026\, we’ll be exploring historic and contemporary personal letters to shape spirituality calling us for our time: \n\n\n\nWinter Jan 11 – Feb 15: “When We Are Called to Dissent and Resist\,” based on the letters of Lt. Silas Soule\, who refused to follow orders and participate in the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre\, Colorado. \n\n\n\nLent Feb 22 – April 5: “Letters from the Heart: Voices of Courage\, Conscience and Consolation\,” starting with Paul (2 Cor. 3:2-3)\, we’ll explore letters (and the lives of the letter-writers) from clergy and lay leaders influential in Christian spirituality–Hadejwich\, Martin Luther\, Sarah Crosby\, Dietrich Bonhoeffer\, Martin Luther King Jr.\, and Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde. \n\n\n\nSpring April 12 – May 17: “Letters to Pope Francis: Rebuilding a Church with Justice and Compassion”\, by Matthew Fox\, as we prepare for his Earth Sunday visit with HAUMC! We’ll explore Fox’s letters for the sake of the Community of Creation. \n\n\n\nClass is led by Nancy Victorin-Vangerud\, participants\, and guests. Feel free to email Nancy for more information and sign up\, so that weekly letters can be sent by email. \n\n\n\nFor January Communications: Witness at Sand Creek: The Life and Letters of Silas Soule

SUMMARY:Coffee with Christy
DESCRIPTION:Longfellow Room \n\n\n\nEnjoy coffee\, connections\, and contemplation with Rev. Christy Key our new Executive Pastor! \n\n\n\nThis monthly gathering offers a quiet\, grounded space to pause\, listen\, and reconnect with God and one another. Each session will introduce a gentle spiritual practice drawn from Sacred Rhythms by Ruth Haley Barton—such as reflection\, guided silence\, or Lectio Divina—creating room to notice our longings and attend to God’s presence. No prior experience is needed; all are welcome. \n\n\n\nStructure & Flow: Each gathering stands on its own\, so participants are welcome to drop in at any point\, though regular attendance may deepen the experience over time. Sessions are lightly guided rather than discussion-heavy\, centered on scripture and contemplative prayer practices rather than open conversation or debate. Expect a calm\, reflective atmosphere with space for silence\, personal reflection\, and prayer.

SUMMARY:Friday Coffee and Connection with Pastor Elizabeth
DESCRIPTION:Join the Zoom Meeting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Pastor Elizabeth for a weekly time of sharing conversation\, coffee\, and topical study. \n\n\n\nCome join us for an opportunity to find your unique path to spiritual growth led by Pastor Elizabeth.  \n\n\n\nFriday mornings we meet in the Longfellow Room from 10:00 – 11:15. There is coffee and a fine group of humans to enjoy. \n\n\n\nJoin Zoom Meetinghttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/88019904564?pwd=14KrqqzBCcIU0i60dbtqpI5N9z4dae.1 \n\n\n\nMeeting ID: 880 1990 4564Passcode: 344849 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOriginal Blessing by Matthew Fox \n\n\n\nIn this book Matthew Fox lays out a whole new direction for Christianity—a direction that is in fact very ancient and very grounded in Jewish thinking (the fact that Jesus was a Jew is often neglected by Christian theology). Fox believes that the teaching of original sin—which Jesus never heard of (no Jew has) has served empire-builders very well but that original blessing—the awareness of the goodness of creation—must take precedence.  The implications are profound for psychological as well as sociological and ecological transformation.  Oppressed people everywhere will recognize the difference.   \n\n\n\nFox lays out the ancient but often neglected (and sometimes condemned) creation spiritual tradition in Original Blessing.  The sacredness of creation and of our role in it is a starting point—what the mystical tradition calls the Via Positiva\, the path of joy and delight\, awe and gratitude.  The Via Negativa is the path of darkness and silence and also of suffering and of letting go and letting be.  The Via Creativa is the path of creativity.  And the Via Transformativa is the path of justice and compassion.  All four paths constitute an adult spiritual journey.  Each feeds the others.   \n\n\n\nFox also lays out 27 themes that interweave among the Four Paths.  For Fox\, all of us are mystics and all are prophets\, and he shows the journey of both in this groundbreaking and revolutionary book that deliberately rejects the 3 paths of purgation\, illumination and union that fail to put justice or creativity at the heart of the spiritual journey.  In this revolutionary work\, Fox shows how Christianity once celebrated beauty\, compassion\, justice\, and creativity and provided a path of ecstatic connection with all creation.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Carly Swenson
DESCRIPTION:Carlson Hall \n\n\n\nMeet intuitive visual artist Carly Swenson\, as she shares her artistic process. Discover her approach to art and creative expression. Enjoy the opportunity to share your own perspective and artistic interpretations of her work. Her acrylic paintings are on display in Carlson Hall now through March 3. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarly Swenson | Artist Statement:I make art because I get sad when I don’t. Art is the love of my life. A place of safety and catharsis for reflection\, grieving\, joy\, and loving discovery. My work is for anyone. My art invites you to stay a while and explore; venture in and see what your imagination finds. Follow your own playful curiosity and see what my artwork ignites in you. What do you see? How does your body respond? What does it remind you of? How are you feeling? \n\n\n\nAs I evolved into an intuitive artist\, my work gained its own presence. Painting with no expectations\, I’m fully embracing uncertainty with colors\, textures\, and brush strokes that simply feel right. I focus on the mindful act of creating\, instead of the end result. Painting without an identifiable concept of success is daunting and beautifully freeing. Finished works take on an unintentionally surreal quality.

Sermons explore the intersection of historical texts and current realities. Our excellent music program launches soul through choral and communal song. Children lead in worship\, we sing varieties of hymns meant to engage hearts and imaginations\, and our cathedral sanctuary bears witness to an enduring desire to praise God in all ways. In the United Methodist Church\, communion is open to all and is shared on the first Sunday of the month. Worship is enriched by a variety of voices\, including our pastors\, Rev. Elizabeth Macaulay and Rev. Christy Key\, along with guest preachers and members of the community.
