150th anniversary

You can’t know where you are going until you know where you have been.
The Church has also published a book titled Aspire! – 150 Years at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church
Written by church members Lori Sturdevant and Bobbie Keller with research by Phil Wala, it chronicles the history of the church from its origin as a splinter congregation within the Minneapolis Methodist community through the first hundred and fifty years of growth, decline and renewal. From the spirited revivals and temperance lectures of the late 1800s to the challenges of a global pandemic, it’s the story of how the people of one church were touched by the social, political and religious times in which they lived, and how they, in turn, continued to practice their faith, working to enhance their community and the wider world around them. The book is available for purchase at the Front Desk.
This book was also selected as one of three finalists in the History category for the Midwest Book Awards 2026, where it won Honorable Mention!
