Family Ministry Programming

Family Ministry at Hennepin Avenue UMC exists to come alongside families to provide spiritual support, discipleship, and inclusive community through our Sunday morning programming, special events, and Worship services.

Children

Hennepin Kids for LYFE, or Live Your Faith Everywhere, exists to help kids lay a foundation for their faith and spirituality through imaginative curiosity as we explore what it means to model God's kind and compassionate love in the way we build community, serve our neighbors, and learn about Jesus.

NURSERY is available for 0-3 year old's. Parents can check in at the nursery anytime before or during the Worship Service, knowing a loving and caring community supports the whole family.
SUNDAY SCHOOL is available for children in Pre-K through 7th grade every 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sunday of the month. Children will check in for Sunday School in the education wing before heading into the Sanctuary with their grown-ups. After Time With Children in the Sanctuary, the children will be dismissed to head to Sunday School.
Youth
Hennepin Youth exists to support kids in their faith and Spirituality as they make big transitions into middle school and high school. As we continue to build community and serve our neighbors Hennepin Youth are encouraged to thoughtfully explore what role they want faith to play in their lives as they inch closer to adulthood.
CLUB 67 is the Sunday Schoool clas for 6th and 7th graders. This class meets at 10am on Sunday mornings in the education wing. This year our middle schoolers will be using an interactive curriculum based on the lectionary as they prepare to begin Confirmation when they get to 8th grade!

CONFIRMATION Students are eligible to begin Confirmation when they enter 8th grade and will remain eligible through 12th grade! Confirmation is an intentional time spent with students to teach them about Christianity, Methodism, and who we are at HAUMC. It's a class to help them wrestle through their personal faith so that they can determine if they would like to be confirmed and become a member of HAUMC. Our Confirmation follows a one-year model: nine weeks of class in the fall, field trips, and a retreat in the spring, and then service opportunities in the summer that will include in-state, out-of-state, and out-of-the-country opportunities.

For additional information, you can click HERE to view our schedule.

If you are ready to register your student for Confirmation 2023 you can use this LINK.

YOUTH SMALL GROUP is for students in 10th-12th grade. This class meets on the Second and Fourth Sundays of the month in the the Church of Youth. Youth Small Group is meant to provide ongoing peer support and guidance from adult leaders as youth at HAUMC go through teenage milestones and begin to look toward college and adulthood! 2nd and 4th Sundays when the class doesn't meet are opportunities for youth to serve in Worship or volunteer to serve with Hennepin Kids for LYFE in nursery or Sunday School.

Summer with HAUMC Family Ministry

There are a variety of ways we want to engage Family Ministry over the summer at HAUMC. Every year there will be an opportunity for Vacation Bible School, a trip abroad for the youth ministry, camps, and numerous ways to volunteer and make an impact on the local community.

  • Volunteer hours could qualify for NHS/college!
  • One Time events require sign-up/ registration.
  • For Weekly Opportunities, drop-in! No sign-up necessary!
  • Opportunities are designed with Youth (6-12th grade) in mind. Anyone younger than 6th grade must be accompanied by an adult.

Weekly Summer Opportunities

ON SUNDAYS

Reflections at 11:15am-12pm in the Harrison Room - Every week the Reflections group meets after Worship in the Harrison Room (off of the Art Gallery) to discuss various topics related to Spirituality. This group would love to have students and/or their parents join anytime.

ON WEEKDAYS

Volunteer at The Dignity Center on Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 9am-12pm in the Ministry House - Drop in any day/anytime to volunteer at the Dignity Center! Coordinate with Mayme if you’d like her to go with you on your first day volunteering to introduce you to Margaret and make sure you’re comfortable and good to go!

Recyclers on Wednesdays at 1-3pm in the Recyclers Workshop - The Recyclers are a group that work on all kinds of projects at HAUMC. Their Workshop is located in the church's basement, equipped with all sorts of saws, sanders, and other tools they repurpose items throughout the church. The recyclers have a wealth of fix-it knowledge to pass on to the next generation. Let Mayme know if you’d like to join so that I can get you connected with the group!

Knotty Quilters on Wednesdays at 9:30am-12pm in the Koinonia Hall - The Knotty Quilters are a group who gather down in Koinonia Hall each week where they sew and quilt. Their work is beautiful. They make the quilted bears that are given to babies at their baptism and donate many of their quilts to families in need! The knotty quilters have a legacy of textile design and crafting skill to share. Let Mayme know if you’d like to join so that I can get you connected with the group!

Annual Summer Opportunities

ANNUAL MISSION TRIP TO GUATEMALA
August 13 - 20, 2023

Every year we will be visiting our Partners, Common Hope, in Antigua Guatemala. Our week will be filled with incredible opportunities that may include building a house, learning about Guatemalan culture, sightseeing, and learning about the unique challenges Guatemalan families living with very little income face. We will serve, learn, and grow together!

SUMMER CAMPS
Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Four full days of fun as we continue to enjoy our partnership with Good Samaritan UMC. We will once again take advantage of their awesome outdoor spaces! We will enjoy games, music, science, art, and fun all while we learn about working together to bring peace.

If you or your middle school/high school students are available to volunteer to help at VBS, email Mayme to get connected!
