Family Ministry

Family Ministry Programming
Family Ministry at Hennepin Avenue UMC exists to come alongside families to provide spiritual support, discipleship, and inclusive community through our Sunday morning programming, special events, and Worship services.
Children
Hennepin Kids for LYFE, or Live Your Faith Everywhere, exists to help kids lay a foundation for their faith and spirituality through imaginative curiosity as we explore what it means to model God's kind and compassionate love in the way we build community, serve our neighbors, and learn about Jesus.
Youth
CONFIRMATION Students are eligible to begin Confirmation when they enter 8th grade and will remain eligible through 12th grade! Confirmation is an intentional time spent with students to teach them about Christianity, Methodism, and who we are at HAUMC. It's a class to help them wrestle through their personal faith so that they can determine if they would like to be confirmed and become a member of HAUMC. Our Confirmation follows a one-year model: nine weeks of class in the fall, field trips, and a retreat in the spring, and then service opportunities in the summer that will include in-state, out-of-state, and out-of-the-country opportunities.

Summer with HAUMC Family Ministry
There are a variety of ways we want to engage Family Ministry over the summer at HAUMC. Every year there will be an opportunity for Vacation Bible School, a trip abroad for the youth ministry, camps, and numerous ways to volunteer and make an impact on the local community.
- Volunteer hours could qualify for NHS/college!
- One Time events require sign-up/ registration.
- For Weekly Opportunities, drop-in! No sign-up necessary!
- Opportunities are designed with Youth (6-12th grade) in mind. Anyone younger than 6th grade must be accompanied by an adult.
Weekly Summer Opportunities
ON SUNDAYS
Reflections at 11:15am-12pm in the Harrison Room - Every week the Reflections group meets after Worship in the Harrison Room (off of the Art Gallery) to discuss various topics related to Spirituality. This group would love to have students and/or their parents join anytime.
ON WEEKDAYS
Volunteer at The Dignity Center on Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 9am-12pm in the Ministry House - Drop in any day/anytime to volunteer at the Dignity Center! Coordinate with Mayme if you’d like her to go with you on your first day volunteering to introduce you to Margaret and make sure you’re comfortable and good to go!
Recyclers on Wednesdays at 1-3pm in the Recyclers Workshop - The Recyclers are a group that work on all kinds of projects at HAUMC. Their Workshop is located in the church's basement, equipped with all sorts of saws, sanders, and other tools they repurpose items throughout the church. The recyclers have a wealth of fix-it knowledge to pass on to the next generation. Let Mayme know if you’d like to join so that I can get you connected with the group!
Knotty Quilters on Wednesdays at 9:30am-12pm in the Koinonia Hall - The Knotty Quilters are a group who gather down in Koinonia Hall each week where they sew and quilt. Their work is beautiful. They make the quilted bears that are given to babies at their baptism and donate many of their quilts to families in need! The knotty quilters have a legacy of textile design and crafting skill to share. Let Mayme know if you’d like to join so that I can get you connected with the group!
