Family Ministry Programming

Family Ministry at Hennepin Avenue UMC exists to come alongside families to provide spiritual support, discipleship, and inclusive community through our Sunday morning programming, special events, and Worship services.

Children

Hennepin Kids for LYFE, or Live Your Faith Everywhere, exists to help kids lay a foundation for their faith and spirituality through imaginative curiosity as we explore what it means to model God's kind and compassionate love in the way we build community, serve our neighbors, and learn about Jesus.

NURSERY is available for 0-3 year old's. Parents can check in at the nursery anytime before or during the Worship Service, knowing a loving and caring community supports the whole family.

SUNDAY SCHOOL is available for children in Pre-K through 7th grade every Sunday of the month. The first Sunday of the month is Service Sunday and Communion. Children will check in for Sunday School at the check-in station and then head directly to the education wing where they will work together on a hands-on service project. Their teachers will bring them as a group into the sanctuary to experience holy communion amongst their church family, after which they will return to the education wing for parent pick up.  On the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sunday of the month. Children will check in for Sunday School at the check-in station before heading into the Sanctuary with their grown-ups. After Time With Children in the Sanctuary, the children will be dismissed to head to Sunday School.

Youth
Hennepin Youth exists to support kids in their faith and Spirituality as they make big transitions into middle school and high school. As we continue to build community and serve our neighbors Hennepin Youth are encouraged to thoughtfully explore what role they want faith to play in their lives as they inch closer to adulthood.
CLUB 67 is the Sunday Schoool clas for 6th and 7th graders. This class meets at 10am on Sunday mornings in the education wing. This year our middle schoolers will be using an interactive curriculum based on the lectionary as they prepare to begin Confirmation when they get to 8th grade!

CONFIRMATION Students are eligible to begin Confirmation when they enter 8th grade and will remain eligible through 12th grade! Confirmation is an intentional time spent with students to teach them about Christianity, Methodism, and who we are at HAUMC. It's a class to help them wrestle through their personal faith so that they can determine if they would like to be confirmed and become a member of HAUMC. Our Confirmation follows a one-year model: nine weeks of class in the fall, field trips, and a retreat in the spring, and then service opportunities in the summer that will include in-state, out-of-state, and out-of-the-country opportunities.

Upcoming Family Ministry Events
LLAMA HIKING AUGUST 16, 2025 That’s right! Our next youth event is scheduled for Saturday, August 16 @ 8:30am-3pm. We’ll begin with a 1.25 mile llama hike at The Hayloft in Hastings, then stop at Vermillion Falls park for lunch and ice cream. When we return to the church, we’ll spend some time together doing a fun service project to help Emerson School prepare for the new school year. Please email Lynne ([email protected]), so that I can reserve enough spots for our llama hike!
