Disability and Faith: A Panel Discussion

For more event details click here: November 8 | 2-3:30pm | Art Gallery

Come listen to the life experiences of four people with different disabilities and faith backgrounds.

The Disability and Faith Panel will include:

Moderator:

Rev. Dr. Josh Steward (he/him/his) identifies as a person with cerebral palsy. He is an Elder in the Minnesota Conference, trained interim pastor, and serves on the Bishop’s Wisdom Council. He loves the Chicago Cubs, public transit, and bringing people together around a variety of justice issues.

Speakers:

Ryan Machtmes (he/him) identifies as a person with low vision whose career includes academia and public service. He is an advocate for inclusion in many capacities. He is a connoisseur of fountain pens, steak and puns.

Maureen (Reenie) Marrin (she/her/hers) Her own experience living with mental illness and addiction combined with witnessing other people living in a system that often treats people as disposable, led to a career attempting to change that system. Reenie finds joy in many things with emphasis on dogs, chocolate, music, and colorful shoes and hats.

Nathan Mayer (he, him) is a lifelong power soccer athlete and President of the United States Power Soccer Association. He’s also a User Experience Designer at Best Buy. Whether he’s leading athletes, designing experiences, competing, or sharing his story, Nathan grounds everything he does in empathy… seeing people first and possibilities second. His motto, “Why Not?”, reminds him to trust God’s timing and keep going.

Drake Scruggs (he/him/his) identifies as neurodivergent- aka neurospicy- and has made a career of lifting up the marginalized and creating spaces where everyone can belong. In his free time he enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons, trying new things, and going on walks.

Come learn from people with disabilities, rather than just learning about them.
