Old School by Steeple People (OSSP) will have three open board positions starting in January, and they’re looking for passionate, community-minded people from Hennepin who want to make a difference!

Old School’s mission is to do justice by offering quality goods at reasonable prices and to live kindly by fostering a welcoming environment and a strong network of support.

Looking for folks who:

• Have strong marketing skills, especially those comfortable working with a small budget
• Are savvy with social media (Facebook, Instagram, website updates, Nextdoor)
• Bring strong organizational skills and can plan and follow through on projects
• Can think big-picture and help us plan for the future
• Are open-minded, engaged, and ready to share ideas

OSSP is not looking for someone who simply shows up to meetings without contributing or getting involved. Additionally, OSSP does not want team members who need to be asked or reminded to take action. These positions would be best served by people who take initiative, participate actively, and consistently follow through on their commitments.

Each board member also spends about 4–5 hours a month volunteering in the store—it’s a great way to stay connected with our staff, volunteers, and community, and to understand how Old School can keep improving.

Old School is also hoping to identify someone who can serve as a legal liaison—not necessarily a board member, but someone who could occasionally connect us with pro bono legal support for document reviews or questions about nonprofit operations. (This work is only needed a few times a year.)

Not ready for board service? You can still help!

If you’d like to pitch in but can’t commit to meetings or store hours, Old School also welcomes help with small, one-time tasks—perfect for anyone who wants to stay involved on their own schedule. For example:

• Taking our plastic recycling to a drop-off location
• Washing and returning store rags
• Assisting with Goodwill donation runs
