Thank you to everyone who allowed me to take their blood pressure! 30% of Minnesotans suffer from high blood pressure, which can lead to heart disease, aneurysm, stroke and other negative health effects. These results give us a better picture of the congregation and dignity center guests.
I screened 112 individuals, 61 of whom were from the congregation. Below is the breakdown for the congregation.

- 55.9% of parishioners have ideal blood pressure (120/80 and below)
- 30.5% of parishioners have moderate high blood pressure (140/80 and below)
The categories above are not considered indicators of hypertension.
- 6.8% of parishioners are at high risk for hypertension (160/90 and below)
- 6.8% of parishioners are at extreme risk for hypertension (160/90 and above)
These two numbers are indicators of chronic hypertension, but this combined 13.6% is well below the 30% statewide number. Note that 71% of our parishioners are 60 and older, which is above the average age surveyed in Minnesota.
These numbers suggest that Hennepin parishioners have good access to primary healthcare and medication, and have generally well-managed blood pressure.
The recommended resources needed for improvement would include education on stress management, medication education and regular screenings.
