July marks a tremendous milestone in Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative’s fight against family homelessness: the grand opening of Emerson Village, a new Beacon supportive housing community in North Minneapolis.
It serves as a permanent home for 40 families. Fully leased, the building is already full of life—kids playing, doing homework, sleeping soundly. Parents and guardians are breathing easier for the first time in a long time. And you, as a member of Hennepin Avenue UMC, helped make this happen!
On March 14, 2023, Hennepin gave a check for $895,000 to help fund the construction of Emerson Village. These funds were from the sale of Koinonia and were approved at an All Church Meeting.
Hennepin’s Housing Justice Team was recently launched in order to strengthen our partnership with Beacon as we fight against homelessness in Minnesota. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the Housing Justice Team, please contact Muria Kruger ([email protected]).
