A Message from the Disability Action Team
The Disability Action Team is hosting our first-ever Virtual Open House. Join us over Zoom on Wednesday, July 24th at 3:30pm.
No need to drive anywhere, you can attend from the comfort of your home or office. This event will only happen online.
This is not just for Hennepin, it is for anyone interested in making faith communities places (and virtual spaces) of authentic inclusion. Tell your family and friends!
It all starts with getting connected. So…
If you are disabled – You’re invited!
Clergy – Invited!
Layperson – Invited!
Not even a United Methodist – Invited!
From the Twin Cities – Invited!
From Greater Minnesota – Invited!
Not sure you’re on the guest list – Invited!
Estimates vary, but about thirty percent of the population has a disability. Disabled people want to participate in all areas of church life, to share their gifts and perspectives, and to belong. Our neighbors, whom we invite to events at our churches, also have disabilities.
During the virtual open house, we will make introductions, have a brief presentation on what DAT has done at Hennepin, and listen to what others have done and what the current challenges are. Together with the Holy Spirit, we will decide how to stay connected for support, ideas, and to generate hope.
Event details and Zoom link will be in future Hennepin Happenings and on our Events page.

What is Disability Pride Month?
July is Disability Pride Month! It commemorates the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990 and honors those living with disabilities. Governor Tim Walz signed a proclamation for the state of Minnesota in 2022, joining many other states in celebrating the lives of their disabled citizens.
Did you know there is disability-focused newspaper, covering the state of Minnesota, that has been publishing monthly for over 30 years? We are now a drop-off point for Access Press! Pick up your free copy at a stand near the reception desk. If you’d like an introduction to disability justice in our state, this is a good resource. If your prefer, read it online at accesspress.org. They also have a free weekly digest of disability news from other sources. Sign up on their website to have it emailed to you.
