1880 (April 9)
Hennepin Avenue M. E. Church has engaged a contractor for the construction of a new church building on the southwest corner of 10th and Hennepin. Although the article says it will be built of yellow brick, they will ultimately use red brick instead, and the building will come to be known as “the red brick church.”

1891 (April 11)
The Minnesota State Legislature wants to ban stage performers from wearing tights, and the Minneapolis Times asks Hennepin pastor Dr. Otis Tiffany for his opinion.

1898 (April 10)
A vehicle parked outside Hennepin Avenue Chuirch is stolen during a Sunday evening service. The owner is offering a $25 reward – about $950 in today’s dollars. (Minneapolis Times)

1910 (April 10)
For now, Hennepin Avenue Church is planning to build their new church on the site of their present building, on the southwest corner of 10th and Hennepin. Minneapolis businessmen, eager for Hennepin Avenue to become one of the nation’s premiere business thoroughfares, are pressuring the church to build elsewhere. (Minneapolis Tribune)
